Bali vacation 2009

It is really true that not until you witness and experience Bali yourself, then you realize that Bali really is the "Land of Gods" (Pulau Dewata).

This one week holiday in Indonesia we spent it in Bali with my wife's family. My wife, my sister and andreas went to Bali first last wednesday. I join them on Friday due to work. On Saturday we went directly to Sukawati Market, where we can find a lot of things made in Bali, such as T-shirt, paintings, arts products etc. all them are really unique with Balinese touch in every items. After that we went to Kuta beach..and Oh my God, not only the view but the experience is truly amazing..I have travel the world, but nothing is like this..too bad, we cannot explore the whole kuta beach..

The next day we went to GWK (garuda wishnu kencana) , again this place really wow-ed me..the GWK would be the largest statue in the world later on when it finish. And then we went to dreamland beach..the view was also amazing from here..

The next day we went for watersport in benoa cape (tanjung benoa). We tried the parasailing and bananaboat,which is quite expensive. I actually wanna try more like the flying fish, snorkeling an diving. In the afternoon we went to tanah lot for sunset, but the weather was not so good, so we cancelled.

There are a lot more that we have not seen in bali, and I believe there will be more trip to bali. Maybe next year for our honeymoon...;)

Valentine & 2nd year anniversary

Our anniversary was actually on the 16th of February, however since it is really close to valentine day, we celebrate both today. It is not about the dinner or the celebration, but its about being together as a family, and having the love and blessed from God. We wanna thanks God for all the Love and blessings for this family. I hope all of you also have a blessed valentine day with your loved one...;)

Winter holidays

Every semester my department normally held an event called MT (Membership training), that's where all the lab member gather and go to a certain place for a holiday. I'm not sure why the called it MT, but there is no training at all, it's just simply a vacation. We have MT twice a year, summer holiday and winter holiday. For this winter holiday, as of last year, we went to a ski resort (Muju Resort). It takes about two hours from Daegu by bus. Last year I joined this winter MT also and I played snowboard, but this year I planed to go around the resort and enjoy our time together as a family and of course take a lot of pictures. However it was not so cold this year, not as cold as last year. Therfore the snow was not as much as last year, but still we got to see the beautiful scenery of Muju Resort. Just another weekend

As usual we spent our weekend mostly at home, since it' still very cold outside. However these last few weeks, the temperature is not as cold. At noon, it can reach about 7 or even 10, which is consider high since it is still February. Therefore last Saturday, we went to the University gate to have dinner and to take pictures...^^...also just yesterday night, we went to Emart to buy some snacks and food for our trip tomorrow. Oh ya, tomorrow we are going to Muju Resort, for winter MT (Membership training), which is a Korean's way of saying holiday trip together..hehehehe..can't wait for tomorrow's trip, but we need to prepare everything tonight, since we are leaving early in the morning at about 5am....

Lily's birthday

Last weekend, we went to the Prodger's house to celebrate Lily's birthday. Her birthday was supposed to be on Dec 25th, but they decided to celebrate it last Saturday. We went there and have a good time with games and the food. I especially love Narina's cookies...
After that, we went to Windu-Vita's house to have dinner. Vita made a delicious Hemul Ramyon. Unfortunately not all can attend. It was a great weekedn for us.

This is the first time we spent the new year together as a family, me, my wife and Axel...This time we celebrate new years eve in the comfort and warmth of our home, because it was too cold outside for us to go and celebrate the new years outside. At midnight, we prayed together thanking God for the abundant blessings that He had poured to us in 2008, and believe that there will be a lot more coming our way in 2009.
The next day we went to Children's Cafe to bring Axel to play there. I think this is a great place to hang out for families with little children. And I think it is a good business opportunity in Indonesia. We spent our day playing with Axel and then we went shopping for our daily need and went for dinner.
Well, even though this year started with a not so promising world economic condition and crisis, but we believe that we can pass through this and we will see a new bright future ahead of us. And as we open the new year, we will also open a new chapter in our family live since I will be graduating by February this year. We have seen God's work in our past live, He's amazing grace and wonderful miracles. And He promise us that He would never leave us alone and He never change. Therefore there is no reason for us not to have faith in Him for 2009.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is our first Christmas together as a family, and this year we celebrated in Korea, in this cold weather. Today, we were invited by the Prodger to have Christmas at their house. Thanks to Karl and Narina for inviting us, and for the delicious turkey, ham, whipped potato and the salad...they are all yummy. Some of our friends from Church was also there for the Christmas party. It was a great Christmas party.
We also missed our family back home in Indonesia, and I hope one day we can celebrate Christmas as a big family...Merry Christmas everyone, and have a blessed new year....

Axel now got a new hairstyle, because according to his mom his hair was messy. Therefore we decided to cut his hair but not all...Since I don't have any experience or lesson whatsoever in cutting hair, we just cut his lower part of his head. And it turned out to be a bowl shape hair style..hahaha...it took us almost one hour to cut his hair. Anyway, he looks much cuter and cubby-er with that hair style....^^

Last Sunday we went for a Thanksgiving dinner at our church. Every year we normally celebrate thanksgiving with a big feast at church. We invite all of our friends to the dinner and enjoy some good foods, like the thanksgiving traditional turkey...However since I was one of the committee, I was quite busy at the event. We couldn't stay until the end of the dinner, because Axel was not feeling well at that time...

This is Axel and Mama's first winter. Axel has just turn 8 months old three days ago and he's already 10.5Kg. Especially when the temperature suddenly drop a couple days ago, from an average of 10 centigrade to below zero, Axel now sleep more and eat more than last autumn...So I guess we expect to see him grow bigger this winter...^^

Even though he is still 7 months old, Axel now has already try to stand by him self.
In his bed, in the baby gym, he always tried to pull himself up but end up kneeling down only, because he's still can't keep his balance. But when we hold him, he has strong enough to keep himself standing. So now, everyday we teach him how to walk so that he can learn how to keep his balance when walking...

It has been for quite sometime for our son to ramble or just make sounds, especially when he is sleepy. So we figure that he already understand or follow the sound near him. So we try to keep communicating with him, as if he understand what we are saying. I believe that he has already understand what we are saying, but he still can't understand how to response or react.
We start with a simple words, like "mama and papa". And recently we have noticed that he can mumble mama, when he is looking for his mom. But then, I got jealous so I tried to teach him the word papa, by keep on mentioning the word papa. And just now, we were so surprise that when we told him to tell those words, he can respond to it. And this is the video on his first words....

International Day 2008

Last Thursday we had an international day in my campus. The event attended by international students attending in my university. Most of the international students perform their own cultural art like dancing, singing, and others. For us Indonesians, we also perform our culture to the event. We perform traditional Indonesian songs by Ikhwan and Vita, Silat by Boy (Andy Tirta), and Wayang by Pak Jos. Andreas was also one of the start at that night, a lot of people just grab him and take photos with him.....^^

Acel is growing so fast, and everyday he always learn something new. Recently he likes to lick things, he will just lick what ever thing that is near him. And we always caught him licking his own hand, but we would not allow him to lick things that is dirty. We bought him a teether, but after sometime he will be bored and find new thins to bite. The funny thing today, when we put him in his crib, he lick his crib's but not realizing that we can see him...this is his video when he was caught by his mom, licking the crib...

Vaccination

Two days ago we went to a public health center to get a vaccination for Acel. This time it is his 3rd hepatitis B schedule. In here, we don't need to pay for vaccination, at least for those vaccination that a baby should have. There are also optional vaccination which we need to pay, like the one for the brain ( i forgot what it's called) it cost 100,000won per shot and we need to complete 3 shots. I was really proud to see Acel, because he is really strong. When the doctor took the shot at his foot, he cries for a while and then smile again, whereas the other baby cries very loud and long. The video when Acel took the shot is posted below...

Anyway, the weather is getting cold now, as autumn is coming. Today alone the temperature reach 15 centigrade, and it will keep coming down until winter...

Half a year

Today, our son "Acel/Andreas" is exactly 6months old. Every day we see our son grow, learn new things and we feel really blessed and amazed by God. Andreas now is getting taller, and he can't stop rolling on the bed. He also now try to pull his body up and try to crawl. Beside milk we also had gave him other solid food like banana, apple and rice. But it seems that he doesn't like banana but he loves the rice and apple.
We really happy and glad for God's beautiful gift in our family, papa and mama love Andreas so very much....

Axel Giggles

My boy Axel has grown so much. Especially this last few weeks since he was able to lift roll around by him self, he became so active. He just can't stop to roll around. Now we have to be extra careful to watch him and we have to put pillows around his bed. There are a lot of new things that he learn also, he can now reject when he doesn't want to drink milk, and he can also giggles. We are not sure yet what makes him giggles, cause sometimes he's just giggling when his mom is talking to him. And it's really easy to make Axel smile, just called him and smile at him and he will smile back, especially when he is familiar with the face. One think that he doesn't like thought, he doesn't like to be laughed at, especially when there are a lot of people. The other day when we had a gathering, one of our friend laugh at Axel because of his standing hair, and everybody was laughing also, but then Axel started to cry...
Last Sunday we were in church, my wife and Axel was there also. Axel was really a nice boy and he knows when he's not at home. He's really being a good boy when he is out and we know that he likes to travel around....

Summer Lotte World

Yesterday we went to Lotte World amusement park. We were kinda tired because the last day we went shopping to Myeongdong and Namdaemun market, and it was raining last Saturday. However we were excited to go to Lotte World. We went there at noon, and arrive at this underground mall that leads to the main entrance of Lotte World. We bought the ticket and get a discount because we are foreigner. We enter the gate and came up to the main indoor hall where all the indoor games are located. Lotte world has an outdoor and indoor area. Since it was so hot outside, we decided to spent most of our time there indoor. And it was surprisingly great, they have a lot of indoor games, they even have indoor Roller Coaster, which goes through in between the narrow buildings.
The first ride we took is the monorail, where we got to see all the surrounding park both the indoor and outdoor. The ride was so crowded, we have to queue for about half an hour. But before we got there, we went to the wrong queuing line, and at the front gate of that ride strangely Axel couldn't get in. At the end i asked my wife and osin to just get in. And I found out later that it was a water rafting (Arung jeram) ride. And only my wife was wet when they got out from the ride.
We took this balloon ride, which is like riding a real hot air balloon ride the on the ceiling of the indoor hall. It was actually quite high, i think its about 10 storey high. And my wife are so scared and he just sit there throughout the whole ride and didn't even saw the beautiful view outside.

We also went to this ride call tornado. Outside they show that inside we would felt like we are in a big storm with earthquake, winds and other stuff. And we couldn't use our multipass to get in, we have to pay 1000won. We were so curious and get in, which was really disappointing, there was actually nothing there. It was just like a dark aisles with wind blowing over your head and a noisy sound.

We also take the desperado ride, where we learn how to become a sheriff, learn how to ride a horse and how to shot bad guys. All of us get in to the ride including my boy Axel, and we did really good. We won the competition and they put our picture as the best sheriff.

They also have some exciting show and carnival. We enjoy ourself very much, including Axel. He was having so much fun, and he can't stop staring at the colorful view surrounding him....

Summer Myongdong-Namdaemun

This Saturday, again, we went for another shopping at Myongdong and Namdaemun Market. Myongdong is famous for its bargain branded items in Korea, and Namdaemun is pretty much the same, but Namdaemun is more like a traditional market. And I'm not sure whether their stuff are original or not. And in Namdaemun we prety much have to bargain with the seller, which is quite inconvenient for us, especially when we didn't know the price range.
However it was raining and we decided to went home at 5pm. Before we went home we stop by at Baskin Robbins-Itaewon to enjoy a bucket of blueberry cheesecake ice cream....hmmmm..yummy...

Last weekend we went shopping to Dongdaemun market. Dongdaemun is like the "Mangga-dua" or Korea. Basically this is the shopping paradise for woman, including my wife and my sister in law. In one of the floors there is a shopping place for children, and we bough some clothes and hat for my son. And when he saw one the t-shirt, he just laugh and laugh...I can't just get enough of him...

Last Saturday we (me, my wife, acel and auntie osin) went to downtown Daegu. We were actually afraid because it has been raining all the time last week due to the monsoon season here in Korea. However last Saturday was really a bright and hot sunny day.
And it was our first day out with Axel, and we have to carry a lot of things. His stroller, clothes, milk, and water (hot and cold). And this time we also have to take public transport (bus and subway). But my son is really a great boy, he always like to go places. He always amaze to the things he sees, and he never cry or anything that makes us uncomfortable. If he's tired, he can sleep in the stroller, if he is asleep he can drink his milk according to the schedule. And every time he wakes up, he always smile...

My wife and my son was finally here on Saturday morning. I was so excited when I meet them. My wife, my boy and my sister in law, osin, was also here. This is the first time I see my boy-Acel, after 3 months away from him. And yes, he is growing so much, and he was really an awesome boy. He just can't stop to smile...and I can't get enough of him. During the flight my wife said he was so quite and didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Also during the ride home by bus, he was being so nice and quite. I'm really excited that they are here, and can't wait to spend more time with them together...

Acel today is exactly 3 months old. And he has grown up very fast. I just got these pictures from my sister in law. And I was so surprise to see how fast my son grow. Now he's very chubby and cute. I just can't wait to meet and kiss and play with my boy.
My wife said now he can already communicate with voices and sound, and he can already play by himself and he can lift up his head...Hopefully they will be here sometime early next month. I surely can't wait to see my boy Acel and my wife Artha...I miss you both so very much...

My boy Axel, or we called him Acel, has grown so much for the past 2 months. He is now more than 5Kg, and he looks bigger than the last time I saw him. This pictures was just sent yesterday by my brother Rico. When I saw the pictures I was so excited and I miss him so much. I also heard his voice through phone when my wife called, and he was so cute. My wife said that now Acel can communicate through sound and movement, and he can react when we play around with him. His hair was also growing so much that my dad make him bald so he can be more comfortable.
I just can't wait for my wife and my boy to come here. I miss you both so very much..

Jakarta, 17 March 2008, 0935pm (WIB, Indonesian time) a healthy and beautiful baby boy was born normal at Kartika Hospital-Pulomas, Jakarta-Indonesia. It was a very excited moment for me to wait for my baby to come, but on that same day it was also a terrifying moment for my wife. Since I can only be in Jakarta for 2 weeks, my wife has to go through a process called induction birth. It is basically a process by giving some sort of drugs/hormone to the mom through liquid infusion to stimulate and speed up the delivery process. Some people said that this process is more painful, but some people said its the same. My wife was so nervous and her blood pressure was rising.

Before the delivery process

We arrive at the the hospital at 1pm, and the induction process start at around 230pm. Artha has to consume one full bottle of infusion before she can feel any contraction. At around 3pm she starting to feel the contraction, first it was only a short contraction for a long interval. By time the contraction interval was reduced but the period was increased. I can feel her paint was really terrible from her expression. She almost gave up for a couple of times asking permission to have Cesar surgery instead. But me, my mom, and my mother in law encourage her to stay strong through the process.

At around 7pm, we were moved from preparation room to the delivery room. Me, my mom, and my mother in law stay there throughout the process to give my wife encouragement. After the final 10cm opening the doctor was ready to deliver the baby. My wifes tried to push for several times but the baby still can't be pushed. My mom, as a mid-wifes knew the whole process and start to cry when the doctor threatened to use vacuum suction. I don't know what's going on but I know that it was not a good sign. I can feel that my wife was also scared, and at that time we all prayed. And my wife tried the last 3 push, and finally the baby was pushed through. The umbilical cord was actually strapped on our baby's shoulder preventing him to come out. We were full of tears after that, and was so happy to see my baby. Even my wife looks so happy and she said it was all worthed.

The nurse took him to the nursery room to clean him and i was there to see him being cleansed. He was so cute and adorable...He has her mother's nose and thick hair, and he has my eyes...and he also has a cute dimple..Me and my wife adore and love him very much..we named him Axel, my dad and mom wants to name him Andreas, and my in laws want to name him Aurello. Therefore we decided to joint all together to be: Axel Andreas Aurello Pangaribuan. It is a long name, but it also shows how much love we have for him.

It was very hard to leave both of them and be apart with them, however I hope that they can join me in Korea after a the documents are ready for my son. Can't wait to be united again in one place as a new family..

There will be a new member in our family this week. Yes, our son will be delivered by this week hopefully. We have already prepared everything and we have also prepared a name for him. I will be going back to Indonesia tomorrow and the next update I will include all the details of our baby boy. We can't wait for it. We also wanna thanks for all the presents for our baby..thanks to all..
And the day after tomorrow will be my wife's birthday, and this time I will spent my time together in her birthday. Can't wait to meet her....

1st Anniversary

At exactly one years ago, 16th February 2007, was our wedding day. It was the most wonderful, amazing and unforgettable moment for me and my wife. From the way we met, the way we prepared our wedding until the d-day, they were all miracles and blessings from God. We couldn't have all this if it is not because of Him. This marriage is not about two people becoming one, but two people who loved each other so much becoming one in God's Love. That is the foundation of our love and our family, "God's Love" Which is also the theme of this blog, "Love comes from God".

For the past one year, we also had many changes in our marriages. Next month we will have a new member in this little family, our son. It's really the greatest blessing that we had since we got married. Our son will complete our love and finally we will be a real family.

Even though we cannot spend this anniversary together, but I pray that this will be our last anniversary to be far apart and we will have many more together as a family.

Let this little family blessed by God and be a blessing to others...

Going home - my sister in law wedding (Part II)

For about 6 days I was in Indonesia to attend my sister in law's wedding. I arrived in Jakarta at about 8pm and was fetched by my Mom, Dad, my little brother and my little sister. After that we went directly to one of my favorite eating place in east-Jakarta, we ate "Ikan Bakar (BBQ fish)". The next day at 9am we flew to Surabaya and arrived there at about 11am. My wife and my sister in law picked us up in the airport. I was really excited to meet my wife again, she was so pretty that day with her new-short hair. This is her 7th month of her pregnancy and her belly was already huge. I can already feel the baby kicking almost every time, it was so great experience for me. Once we arrived in my parents in law's house, everybody was already gathered there.
We had lunch and also have a prayer for the baby. This is one of the tradition that all the family pray for the baby and also give some advices for us as a new parents. Every single family member gave their blessing to the baby and to us and pray so that the baby would grow healthy.
On the next day, my sister in law's wedding was held. The day was started in church and later continued with the ceremony in another building. It was a long ceremony just like our wedding last year.
It was a very short holiday, but it was very excited.

I'll be flying back to Indonesia this coming Thursday for only 5 days. I'll be there to attend my sister's in law wedding in Surabaya. The wedding will be on Sunday, 12th January 2008. My future brother in law will be one of my senior from High school, what a small world...Anyway, I can't wait to be there to meet my lovely wife...I miss her so very much...

Thankful for 2007

It is almost end of the year, in 2more days we will come to a brand new year, 2008. We have passed through 365 days in 2007. We might have experienced a lot during this year. Good things, bad things, blessings or even struggle for something, whatever that is we have passed through it. Now it's time for us to look back and not regret for what we have or what we have done, instead we need to be thankful and be grateful for those.
For myself, this year has been the most amazing year for me. This year is like a turning point for me to start brand new life. First of all, this year I was married to a great, wonderful, amazing, lovely, and faithful woman, ARTHA MARGARETHA. This is so far the greatest blessings that I have in all of my life. The second blessings, we have decided to move to Korea to continue my study. This was a very hard decision for us, because moving to Korea means we have to start everything all over again and we don't have anything to start with, we only have faith. And God works through our faith, not only we have enough to start and continue our live here in Korea, but we have more than enough. God provide amazing ways and miracles for us here, and a lot of things that never came in to our mind happened here. Before we came here, my grandpa said "Don't pray to ask God for blessings but ask God to provide the blessings". Now I understand what he said. The third blessings for this year is my wife is pregnant with a baby boy. That means next year there will be three of us celebrating new year.
These are only some of the blessings that we have this year, there are a lot of other countless blessings and miracles that God has provided. And next year I already know one thing that God has provided me to start with, which is hope. And I believe there will be a lot of wonderful things and miracles that are waiting for us to be reached.

Christmas Time

I really miss my wife especially during this holiday season. Christmas is a time where we suppose to gather with our family, embrace them and be thankful for what we have. Its because of this day that we can be saved and have God's amazing grace, which is His only son.
I really miss my family and my wife during this season, i really hope that this will be the last Christmas that I spend by my self here or anywhere.
So during this Christmas, if you are close by with your family, spend your time with them and don't take that for granted, be thankful for that and for all the grace that God give to us...

Pepero Day

Last night I was wondering why are they selling chocolate and long stick of snack along the road. And I was thinking is it already valentine?Or maybe another type of valentine, cause here in Korea they have valentines day, white day, black day..all kind of strange day...well anyway, when I went to church today, Someone gave me 'pepero' and said happy pepero day. Whats a pepero day???

Pepero is a long crackers with chocolate crust on top of it. They were saying that it began with some girls exchanging pepero to wish each other so they can grow tall and think just like pepero the snack, and they celebrate it on 11/11. It sounds silly all right, but some people think it's just a marketing strategy by LOTTE, the pepero maker to improve their marketing. It's basically the same like chocolate and flowers on valentines day.

I wonder, why don't we have a 'Bakso day' on the 08/08 in Indonesia..hmmm..maybe i should start a bakso company then..hahahaha...

Yesterday was a very long day for me. We started the day as early as 5am in the morning because we need to take the 630am train to Seoul. And it was a cold morning yesterday, I think it was about 16 centigrade. We arrived in Seoul around 1030am and took a bus to Incheon Airport. At noon we arrived at the airport and directly went to check in. We were quite worried because last week our travel called and said that my wife's name in the ticket is different from the one in the passport, In the ticket is "Artha Margaretha" but in her passport is "Artha Margaretha Purba". But strangely in order to change it we need to add more money which is more than half of the price ticket. And we arrived at the checked in counter, we didn't face any problem at all..
Anyway Artha left Korea at 3pm yesterday and when I reached home i felt part of my life was taken away. I have been away from home since I was 16, but I never felt like this before. Really miss getting up in the morning, buy her favorite bread for breakfast and make the "eo..eo..eo" sound from my bicycle horn to let her know that I'm home. I miss you so very much my dear Margaretha...

When we look at our baby on the USG monitor, we always felt that he knows we are watching him. And he seems like showing off by rotating him self and showing off his hand and feet...very cute...Last Saturday the Doctor confirm again that our baby is a baby boy...And as we told you before we have prepared a baby girl name but not a baby boy, so we are still struggling what to called him. My wife refer him as "Kevin", cause he love the "Home alone" movie. My parents refer him as "Manasye", before they know that it is a baby boy. Anyway we have not decided yet....

Yesterday we had a small farewell dinner with Pak Lee's (Mr. Lee) family. Pak Lee is a Bahasa Indonesia student of mine. He is a Professor in one University in Korea and he has an interest on Indonesia and Malaysia. He and his family has been a blessing for us, they are all very nice and very helpful to us. Its like having our own family here in Korea.
When he knew Artha going to leave for Indonesia, he arrange a small farewell dinner with us at his place. It was a warn nice dinner with his family and we talked all night long. This family has been a blessing to us, and we hope that someday we can do the same thing for them.

Today my lab mate treat us lunch at a restaurant near campus. This is like a farewell party they said to wish my wife a happy journey back to Indonesia. We ate Korean food and have a chit-chat together. It's really nice of them to do that, and we were very glad to have such a lovely friends around us. This afternoon we are going to E-mart to buy some gifts for our family back in Indonesia. And tomorrow we will have another farewell party with my Indonesian language student...

Next week Artha is going back to Jakarta. It's really sad to let her go actually, but this is for her and our baby sake. This is our first time in having a baby, I'm getting busier day by day and our baby is getting bigger and bigger. I do not want to let my wife stay alone at home during the pregnancy, and I can't also leave my work and classes, therefore going back to Indonesia is the best choice.
It's kinda sad also not to be able to see the growth of our baby, but anyway I won't miss the delivery next year. I will be back to Indonesia sometime in March next year, and I will take a long break at that time. This weekend we will visit the doctor once again for final check up.
Still until now we have not figure out a perfect name for our baby...any ideas?

This weekend we have a very long weekend. This is because of the Chuseok Holiday. Chuseok or sometimes spelled Chusok is one of the main holiday in Korea. The celebration is basically the same as "Thanksgiving"-day, however in Korea they are thankful to their ancestor. This holiday is also the same as "Lebaran" in Indonesia as this is the time where all Koreans returning to their hometown. This holiday is a family holiday, where in the family gather and meet in their hometown and celebrate with a big feast.

For us, we don't have anywhere to go. Therefore we went downtown to see what's going on there. Well because this holiday is more to a family holiday, the city was not as crowded as normal day, and the activities just started at 2pm. We walked around the shops and also drop by at "Warung Indonesia" to have beloved Indonesian Food.

Last Saturday we went again for our monthly check-up. This Saturday, the hospital was not as crowded as the usual weekend. Maybe because we arrived there around 10am or maybe due to the long weekend. As usual before we went in to the Doctor's room my wife's need to check the blood pressure and her weight with the machine available in the waiting room.
After waiting for a while the receptionist called my wife's name, "아르타 마르가레타 님"( Miss Artha Margaretha), then the nurse took us the Doctor's room. Our nurse is so nice to us, even though she does not know English. In the Doctor's room, the Doctor check the previous record and then we went in to the USG Room. Now we can see clearly our baby's head, body, hands and feets. Now we can even see the 5 fingers. The Doctor carefully check on every parts of the body and the bones, and He said that it is going to be a healthy baby BOY...We were so excited to hear that. The Doctor predict that it is going to be a baby boy based on the USG result, but it is not confirmed until next month. Anyway we are very happy to see our baby grow healthy and now we need to fine a baby boy name...

One thing about pregnancy that everyone must be familiar with is the craving for food (ngidam). Not to mention my wife, she crave for Indonesian food almost everyday. BUt you know, it is practically impossible to get Indonesian food here in Korea. I'm trying my best to cook for her, however she can't stand the kitchen smell therefore I can't cook and we have to buy our food.

Korean food is very much different from our Indonesian food. Korean food is spicy, sour and salty...maybe you knew the Kimchi...the other problem is that we are new here, so we do not know much about Korean food. So far we knew only a few foods like, samgetang (chicken herbal soup), kalbitang (beef soup), bulgogi toppap (bulgogi with rice), don kash (pork cutlet), ramyon (noodles), bibimbab (mixed rice and vegetables), samgyopsal (barbecue pork) and the most popular one is kimbab (Korean sushi)...

This is a truly new experience for us both, and we are very exciting to explore this...

Last weekend we went to the doctor for our routine check up. This time we can see our baby's head and body clearer than last two weeks. The hand and feet is already growing even though it is not fully grown. Our baby is now 3cm long, and we can see our baby moved around during the USG. We were really excited to see the movement. The heart beats is really strong, and the doctor said that fetus has a higher heart beats than us. Anyway, we are really graceful and the doctor and nurse was also really nice to us, even though the nurse can't speak English well, but she always smile to us and very helpful. The Hospital, Fatima women's hospital, is located about 30minutes from where we stay, and it is a beautiful hospital. As you can see the Doctor's room is so comfort, but it all comes with a price. Inspite of that, the Hospital is always filled with patience, therefore normally we have to wait for about an hour or so before we can meet the Doctor. All in all we are very pleased with the Hospital.

How excited we are to hear that we are going to have baby, and when i see the USG pictures I almost cry, can't believe that I'm going to be a dad soon. Well being a parents (mom and dad) is not that simple, and there is this period which I called Pre-dad and Pre-mom or we can called it pre-parents. Just like we are having a pre-test in our school examination period, I think God designed this period to prepare us for the upcoming parental period. Which period that I'm talking about?

I'm talking about the 38 weeks period of pregnancy. If you are a parents, you should know about this. In pregnancy time your wife will suffer a lot of changes, especially in the first trimester. The first common thing will be morning sickness. I don't know why they called it morning sickness, cause in our case, the nausea feeling is almost anytime. Morning, noon, and even at night when you are sleeping. The nausea has so many effect, firstly you will feel much more sensitive to any smell. In my wife's case, she can't smell the kitchen and the refrigerator...therefore she can't go to the kitchen and the kitchen door has to be closed at all time. And also she can't cook anymore, therefore I have to cook.
I myself can't cook at all, but now I have to. The first thing I learn is to cook rice...hehehe..I know all you have to do is to put the rice on a rice cooker, but I don't know how much water required. Secondly is to fry egg. Now I can already make fried chicken, chicken soup, potato cake (perkedel).
Last Saturday we went to check up on our baby condition again. This time we can hear our baby's heart beats, and it grows from 1.2cm to 1.36. Now we can almost see the head and body's shape, but we can't see the sex yet. Anyway, we have prepared some names for baby boy or girl. But when times comes we will decide which one to choose...Well, I was actually hoping for a twin though..:D

It's really difficult to describe how we feel right now, excited, anxious and still cannot believe that we are going to be a parents. Do you remember that last 2 weeks, we were invited by my Professor to come to his house for dinner?Well on our way there, on a park near my Proff"s apartment, somebody ran to us and stop us. First she spoke to us in Korean, because she thought Artha is a Korean. And when she realize she was talking to a foreigner, she start to speak in English. Her English was quite good for a mid-aged woman. She said that Artha was "예쁘다" and she offer Artha to become one of her painting model. She is a paint teacher in her art school academy. So we said we will consider cause we were so surprised and we ask for her contact number. Once we arrived in my Proff's house, I consulted with him and he called and talked to the lady in Korean. And he said it is OK.
Therefore we went there the next morning to see her school and its actually nearby our place. Its like an art gallery, and i saw a few people painting. So we made an appointment with her for the painting session.
And yesterday we went there for 2-hours painting session. All Artha have to do is to sit there and pose. Well we were so fortunate, and this is a good experience also for my wife. I think nothing of this is because of our work, it was all because of God's amazing grace. Thanks God for the blessing....

Did you realize that last Saturday was 777. I guess there were a lot of weddings going on yesterday, and may be you couldn't decide to go to which one. Well for us we went downtown for sight seeing. Its a hot day, because its already beginning of summer, so we had to wear shade and hat. It was very crowded there, well its so obvious because it was Friday. We planned to watched movie actually, but we end up spending our time in Starbucks. It was nice actually. I like the weather, the surroundings and it was all a great day for both of us...

This weekend me and my wife spent our time eating with our friends. Last saturday my Korean teacher (Ms. Song) invite us to her house to have lunch with the others in my Korean class. There are 9 students in my Korean class, but only 4 people can attend, 5 including Artha. Ms. Song's place is not so far from our campus, so her husband picked us up. Her house was very nice and cozy, I really like the way she design and choose the furniture, its simple yet elegant. We had a Korean style lunch, and the food was abundant.

On the same day, my Professor invite us to his house for a dinner. And also I want to introduce Artha to him and his family. When we arrive there, my Professor, her wife and her son was there waiting for us, her daughter then join us when she woke up. His son and daughter are so nice, they are so friendly even thought we do not know how to communicate with them. But they always play with us and show off their toys. We also had Korean dinner at my Professor's place. After that, my proff and his family went to our house to see our condition. And he said our room is not bad for that budget. My proff family's are very nice and caring, I think we are blessed to have Dr. Yoon as my advisor.

Last night we had a gathering at my place, to introduce my wife to the others Indonesian student here. Me and Artha made some food at home, well not all because some of the food we bought and some we brought from Indonesia.

It was a great weekend overall....

Yesterday, we took a walk around the campus. The weather was breezy and kinda cool, even though now almost the end of spring. We start from my lab, I showed Margaretha my lab and my working desk. Campus was quite because its holiday season and its already 7 o'clock. These days the sun shine longer than usual, because of coming to summer i guess. We took a walk to the campus gate from the lab, it was a long walk but it was fun and the weather was nice. In front of the campus, we ate topoki, I told margaretha a lot about this. Well finally she taste what topoki is. After that we went for shopping. Well for our daily needs. Well maybe next time i'll tell you guys about our shopping time..

A new chapter

Finally last weekend my wife came to Korea. I fetched her in Incheon international airport. On Friday I had a meeting in KIST and friday night after the meeting I went straight to incheon and spent the night there. My wife's plane landed on schedule at about 6.40am, and she came out about an hour after that. I missed her so much when I met her. We took KTX from Seoul station to our home. And now we have finally settled down here. Its a new beginning for us and a new chapter....

After a long search, i finally found a place for us to stay while we are in Korea. Today i just confirm with the agency and I will sign the contract next Monday. The place is a one room apartment, just behind my campus. Its about 15minutes walking or 5minutes by bike. The room is very convenient, cozy and quite affordable for a student like me. I'll start to move in on the 2oth this month. I will update again on the pictures of our room.

Wedding Day-Surabaya, 18th February 2007 (Final)

After a long day of wedding celebration on the 16th February, the next day 17th February 2007, we went to Surabaya to have another wedding reception. We took air asia at about 3pm from Jakarta. And the flight was delayed due to bad weather, we were already inside the plane when the pilot announced that the schedule has to be delayed due to the heavy rain. We waited around 30min before the plane took off. That was the first time for my brother Rico taking a plane, and he was quite scared. Me, my wife artha, and my sister Icha were sitting together, while my mom, dad and my brother rico seating on the other side. The journey was quite bad due to the bad weather and we got a bit scared especially Rico. However we finally arrived in Surabaya and went directly to Narita Hotel where my mom, dad, my bro and sister stay. After that me and artha went to my parents in law place, where they already arrived in Surabaya taking the morning flight.
We were staying at Novotel Surabaya, and Artha's sister gave us a room with a balconny, however due to it was full they upgrade us to a novotel suite. The room was huge, it has a living room, huge bad room, with 2 bath room and 2 TV. Well again God give this as a present to us on our wedding Day. So we called this our honeymoon suite.
The next day, Sunday 18th February 2007. Everything was ready, except we were worried about Baren, Artha's little brother who is going to be our wedding singer was sick and hospitalize the night before. Well again with God grace He made it to sing in our wedding.The building that we were using,Sasana Bhakti Tribuana Tungga Dewi (BK3S), was great, it was big and so wonderful with all the decoration all around.
The wedding ceremony starts at around 7pm, and it start with the entrance of bride and groom, Artha and Me. During the Entrance there were presentations of our video and tradional batak dance. After that, we cut the wedding cake with a samurai sword and gave a piece of the cake to both our parents. After that the guests were eating and they congratulate us one by one on the stage. Overall it was a short and sweet ceremony.
Everything went very well from the preparation until we finally did our wedding celebration. We both thank God for all the things that He has given for us, I believe it was all only because of God's grace, not by our might and power.

Once we arrive in the church, we had our wedding tradition "Marsibuhabuhai" or its a tradition where the groom and the families come the the bride's family house to have a permition to take their daughter to be the bride. Normally both families will exchange food and have breakfast on that occation. After that we went downstairs to a room to have our "Catatan Sipil" or government marriage certificate. After that we start the Holy Matrimony.
Right Before we enter the church, we present our wedding video that shows my old days and Artha's old days until we met each other and united by God's holy love. After the video, we enter the building with a bautiful song, and it was the happiest moment in my live. During the service the sky was already dark. All the holy matrimony went beautifully, and when my brother Rico present a song "Amazing Grace", I was wept by tears. That song was so beautiful and reminds me that all of this was only because of God's grace. After that we proclaim our pledge in front of GOD to be husband and wife and during the wedding ring exchange, both me and Artha was wept by tears cause we were so happy. And at that point of time rain fall, which make us a little bit worried. However the rain stop after our service, and the sky was clear and it was a terrific day, not so hot not so cold.
After the wedding Holy Matrimony we went to "Wisma Mangaradja" building. And on the way there, Artha was again sick and throw up in the car on the way to the building. I was quite panic but I believe that she will be Ok. When we arrived there, we directly go to the make up room. The building was already full and crowded by people. And we were so happy to see that. Once Artha had her lunch, she was ready. And again we enter the building with a happy face.
All the ceremony went perfect, all was very happy and excited on our wedding. The building was full, from and the food was almost not enough. Everything went well and the wedding only ended at about 730pm. It was a very tiring and the most wonderful day in my life.
When we went back home, we heard the news that on the south Jakarta it was raining heavily and flooded. And I was so greatfull that God really protect our wedding and make it a succesful wedding day. It is only because of God's might grace.

Today is a very special day for my lovely wife, Margaretha. 26 years ago she was born in this world and destine to be my soulmate and precious wife forever. As a surprise for her, I managed to give her a Birthday surprise by sending her a bouquet of white roses. Thanks to my sister in law, Osin (Yohana) and my uncle, om pit, who have helped me in arranging this Birthday surprise for my wife.
I have also bought a pair of t-shirt and mugs from here in Korea. It is a couple t-shirt and mug, and its look cute. I got it from an internet shopping so I also send it to my wife as a present. "My love...I hope this first birthday with me will be one that you can't forget forever".

....After 4 days, Artha was finally recovered from her ill, but she was not totally recovered and still a rest for a few more days. I was so worried that she wouldn't be fully recovered during our wedding day. But she was very strong at that time and I can see her spirit and passion to recover is tremendously strong. And on the D-day, she finally gain her strength and make it until the end of our wedding ceremony.
One day before, on the 15th Feb. It was raining quite heavy in the afternoon, and we were so worried that the rain wouldn't stop and would cause another flood. At that time I also got a headache, and I have to sleep and take medicine to recover. On the night before the D-day, the rain stop and I was recovered from my headache. At that time all Artha's family stayed in a hotel in tebet-Jakarta area. On that night, me and artha prayed for the next day Wedding, we asked God for the success of our wedding. We prayed especially for the weather, so that the Hand of God can protect the church building that we used for the wedding from bad weather. And at that time we fully surrender to him and believe that He will give us the best wedding day ever.
I cannot sleep during that night because i was so worried, at around 3am I was awoken by a delivery guy who was delivering the hand-flower bouquet. At about 4am, all the families was already running around busy preparing their clothes and make up. When I dressed up, I have a trouble too on my Wedding suit. One of the button was broke and I have to replace it with a new one. Thanks God someone brought a spare button and so fortunate that it has the same design as my Wedding Suit.
Everything was perfect at that morning, me and my white wedding suit and my bride with her beautiful-elegant-long-white wedding Gown. Our wedding car was a silver Mercedes with flowers and a special plate number "B 1427 PA", which I translated as 14-Feb(2)-(20)07 or valentine day which is a day to love and close to our wedding day 16th Feb 2007, and the last 2 digits are PA or "Parlin Artha". We did not order that car due to its plate number, but it was so coincidence that we got that. Well I believe God has planned this all along.
After everything was ready, we went at about 7am in the morning to the church guided by a military police officer-bike rider. The weather was perfect at that morning and the traffic was not so heavy even though it was on friday...(To be continue)

Finally the day was came, my wedding day with my beautiful bride Artha Margaretha. All the thing that we have prepared, we have prayed has finally been a successfull wedding celebration.
Two weeks before the D-Day, I was very scared and worried becuase of the flood in Jakarta. The 5 years flood cycle in Jakarta last 2 weeks was the biggest since almost 30years. And it is so unfortunate that the building (Wisma Mangaradja) that we are going to use at that time was also flooded and the road going to Mangaradja was blocked due to the flood. Me and Artha was so worried and also our big families. We had a meeting one week before the D-Day to have an alternative venue for the wedding, and also to pray and to fast for the success of the wedding Day. A few days before our wedding, my bride was sick and has to be hospitalized for 4 days, but still in our heart we believe that God will make miracles in our wedding. A song that keep us stronger and to hold to our faith to God is a song by Symphony Music "A thaousand shall fall at my side (Walau Seribu Rebah)"...... (To be continue)

Wedding Invitations Card

Our wedding invitations design is also designed to be simple and elegant. For the Jakarta Holy Matrimony and Wedding reception we choose white color that symbolize purity and holiness, the fonts are written with Gold ink that symbolize the elegant wedding. Because the wedding is with Bataknese tradition the card is written in two languages, Indonesian and Bataknese.
Whereas for the Surabaya Reception, the concept of the invitation card is extravagance and luxurious, therefore gold background color is picked to strengthen the elegancies. This card is written in two languages, Indonesian and English.

Enggagement in Church (Martuppol)

Last weekend, 27th january 2007 we had our Church Enggagement in Surabaya. It was a simple ceremony in Manyar church Surabaya. We started to prepare at about 6am in the morning, Artha, my mom, nantulang (artha mom) and all the ladies preparing their make-up, hair and dress. Artha was wearing a brown-gold Kebaya (Indonesian traditional gown), and she was awesomely beautiful. After all preparation, I went to Artha's home to pick her up with her families and then we went together to church. In church we had aservice and then we signed on a paper stating that we do not have any problems with other person that can disturb our wedding. And then later on this will be announce to the church congregation during sunday service until our wedding day on the 16th February 2007.
After the church Enggagement, we went to a building where both big families met and talked about the wedding. They basically talked about the cost the invitations, and how some details on the wedding day.
That day was quite tiring, it only end at about 6pm in the afternoon. After that both families went home and then had another meeting. Well the wedding day will be more tiring than that.

After a long search here and there, we finally decided to designed our own wedding ring. We looked at few wedding ring design and came up with this simple design. Our focus is actually to have a simple, elegant and everlasting design. Therefore we choose this design with Gold ring based, coated on top with white gold layer and then planted with sparkling diamond surround with a couple frame list on the side.

Our Pre Wedding Pictures have finally come to a final stage. Last sunday we came to Digital Box for final editting, and I was very satisfied with the result. The editted version was great, I like the way they play with the template design, merging photos and the colors. Now they are still in the printing process to an album. I cannot wait to see the album.

Basically our preparation is already coming to a finishing stage. We have confirmed the place, church, music, decoration, catering, invitation, souvenirs, photo-video, wedding car, wedding gown and suit. We just need to double check, double confirm and make sure that everything is according to our plan. There will be some hick ups along the way, for sure. But we need to minimize that as small as possible. I believe God will guide us through all this.

Me and Artha are two totally different person, we have our own personality, experience in live, background, history and so on, just like described in the picture above. My Dear Artha is a fun loving lady when you really know her, however people sometimes misjudge her by being too harsh.
First time I saw her was in her guardian's place in Jakarta, but we have been communicating through Email and Phone before. I was quite stunned when i first met her, she is beyond my expectation. She is an elegant, dazzling, mature and adorable.
Well I guess I describe all. In short she is lovely, and that's why I love her.
She is a strong mature lady which compare to her age, she is older by attitude but younger by appearance. She can also be very spoil sometimes, however that actually completes her.

How we met

How did we meet?well to tell you the truth it is kind a funny when I think over it again. Basically we met from a popular website Friendster, I guess most of you knew it. I was browsing this web to see people's profiles and friends, and there I found her, Artha Margaretha Purba. I message her from Friendster, and I still have the record of my first few messages to her. And from that day on, we keep on communicate and until now we finally together. But I believe nothing is by coincidence. I believe all this have been planned by God. And if you think backwards, First of all God wants us to be together, Second of all God wants us to meet through Friendster, which also mean God has to find someone to create Friendster for us...hehehhe...Well I know He is unbelievable and remarkable, He created and planned everything in great detail I thank God for what He has done for me and Artha. As the theme of this blog, ".......for Love comes from GOD........" 1 John 4:7. I believe the Love that we have together is from Him and we want to spent this with Him.

Finally yesterday night we went to DigitalBox at Dharmawangsa-South Jakarta to collect our edited Pre-Wedding pictures. We went there after work and reach there at around 730, because we had to wait for the 3-in-1 road rules in Sudirman. When reaching there we met Novi, the sales person, and Udin the photographer. We viewed the edited pictures in the computer, however it is not completely edited yet. According to them they need more time to completely edit all the pictures into the album and the frame.

Pre-Wedding Pictures

We have chosen 20 pictures out of, i think more than 50 Pictures taken during the photo shooting. Out of the 20 pictures we chose two to be printed and put it in the big frames. Overall we are very satisfied with the result, i think it is very artistic. However the editing need a lot more work to complete. Novi promised us that all would be ready before the second week of January 2007. I have taken all the pictures and put in our Wedding Gallery, you can view them all there. The two pictures that we are going to show at our wedding are below. And we are taking some pictures also for the invitation.

Last Saturday we went to Dharmawangsa Square DigitalBox to have our PreWedding Photo Session. We arrived there quite late, because of the traffic. We were supposed to be there by 9am, but we reached there at about 10am.
It takes 2 hours just to do the make-up for artha, however the result is very, very and i mean very beautiful. Artha was just like a living 'Barbie doll' with the wedding gown. She is so amazingly beautiful, I'm so lucky to have her.
At about 12am the photo shoot start. The photographer is Udin, i'm not really sure on his full name. But he is very good as he is the head of photographer in Digital Box. There were 3 photo session with 3 different outfit. First of all is the White Wedding Gown, and then the Yellow traditional wedding "Kebaya" outfit, and the last one was the casual shirt. We have to pose according to Udin's, the photographer, instruction. The photo session it self take about 4-5 hours. However overall we are very satisfied with the result. Udin is really an expert in this.
The first one with the wedding Gown, the theme is more to formal-casual. There are no background, instead it was a mess of the photo studio items like tripod, fan, chairs and so on. I think it is very creative. The second session with the "kebaya", more to formal pose. The last one with the casual Shirt, the theme is fun and romantic.
I love the result and we'll wait for the editing by next week. I'll update more on the result.

Purba's Family in Jakarta

Last weekend,my parents in law went to Jakarta to prepare all the necessary thing for our wedding. My (future)mother in law arrived in Jakarta first on thursday and then went for shopping on friday for Artha's wedding gown. And then saturday morning my (future) father in law. On the same day we went to the head of "Marga Purba's" house.
In Bataknese, in order for us to have the wedding both big families have to attend the wedding party. In Artha's family which is Purba, they have to get the Purba's from Jakarta and have permission from them. Therefore we went to the head of Purba's in Jakarta to talk about the wedding. They will be the representative of Purba's big families in Jakarta. Same goes with Pangaribuan, in Surabaya we have to look the Pangaribuans.
It was a long journey last weekend, but in the end all went well.

Pangaribuan Family Tree

I'm quite surprise to find this family tree document in my desk this morning. Right away I type it and put it here. Basically the picture above shows my root from the very first Pangaribuan which is the "Toga Raja Pangaribuan". In Bataknese, it is only man considered carried their family name, therefore the ladies is not written cause their children will use their father's surname. I'm the 16th descendants of the Pangaribuan's family. Maybe later I can complete all the Pangaribuan's Family Tree.

Wedding Proposal-Marhusip

Last Saturday, 18th November 2006 was a special day for us, because on that day we were enggaged. In Bataknese we called it Marhusip. Our parents meet up in Surabaya formally to discuss the wedding arrangement according to the Bataknese wedding ceremony. The bataknese ceremony is very, very, and i mean very complicated. I cannot understand all the process. However it looks fun. We will have another ceremony called Martuppol next January in Surabaya. Martuppol is normally two weeks before our wedding day, it is where the wedding announced in church and where the families meet and discuss job division during the wedding day. And there are more ceremony that both families are going to do to complete the Wedding in Bataknese way.

My parents and sister came on Friday by train. Me, my father and mother in law pick them up in the train station. My parents stay in this small place very near to where my parents in law stay. We had dinner and went to the "pangaribuan" family. This family will be my host family in surabaya, representing my surename (marga). The next morning on saturday, Artha came from Jakarta with Deris.

The ceremony start where my family went to where all the "pangaribuan" gather. And then they discuss what are they going to say during the Marhusip. We appoint one guy as the spokeperson (Raja Hatta), normally those who knows alot about the Batak culture and tradition. After that we went to "Purba" house (Artha's family). My family will bring pork as a gift to them, and they will provide fish (If i'm not mistaken). And then they talked about the wedding, the dates, venue and all the details. The way they discuss is very interesting, it is more like reading poem with beutiful words, and the word are chosen very carefully. That is why the spokeperson have to be experienced in this.

All went well and hoping the rest of the ceremony will go as per plan also.

Lebaran Holiday Jogjakarta

We took train from Jakarta to Jogya, and the train was delayed for about 2 hours in Jakarta due to technical issue. And we have to wait inside the train wihtout any aircon. It was a long and tiring journey.

Finally we arrive in Jogja. During the holidays we didn't really spent much of our times outside since most places closed during the holidays. These are some pictures when we are out for shopping and eating.
